Joe's Makerbot will now be Joe's 3D Workbench

Joe's Makerbot is now Joe's 3D Workbench. http://joes3dworkbench.blogspot.com/

This has been a long time coming. I avoided it for many technical reasons, but I now feel it's time.

Joe's Makerbot (this blog) will remain with it's history and posts, but I will no longer be updating it. From now on all posts related to making, designing, and teaching will be on Joes3dWorkbench.blogspot.com. I hope you'll all visit me there. I will also occasionally post my more editorial thoughts on 3DHacker.com's blog.

New website and facebook page for the book

Busy day. First thing to report is I finally got off my rump, registered learn3dprintingblueprints.com, which is a bit longer than I wanted but squatters these days, and made a web site for it including that video I made a while back.

Secondly, 3D Printing Blueprints also has a facebook page. If you could go and like it that would be awesome. I plan to update the facebook page with cool things I've modeled and highlights from the blog that might be interesting to people who want to learn to do design. My wife is actually coaching me on this one. So if you can go and like that page, I'd be very happy.

Finished a video for the book.

New video for 3D Printing Blueprints. I'll have a web site for the book soon and this'll be a major fixture. Apparently the book is also getting some reviews on Amazon and GoodReads. It's been a slow ball to get rolling, but hopefully this'll help.

Doing a video, even a really short one, isn't easy. It's actually a lot of work just gathering the elements and a lot more work editing it. This is why I don't do more videos. Bless Andrew Mazzotta for being willing to do it as much as he does. If I could find a way to get entertaining videos up without the laborious editing process I'd do it more often.

Packt Running a Contest on Twitter

Can you guess where the robot from my book 3D Printing Blueprints is vacationing in the UK? Check out the pictures on @Packtpub on twitter and the special bonus picture here and guess the location on twitter or on a comment here. Where could that little robot be resting? He looks all tuckered out.

You can get 3D Printing Blueprints now for 30% off using the code 3D30.

3D Printing Blueprints is now for sale

My book, 3D Print Blueprints is available for sale now on Packt, Amazon, Amazon UK, and soon to come at Barnes and Nobles. Looks like the eBook option is only available Packt right now, and Amazon appears to sell the physical copies a little cheaper.

And on a personal and entirely unprofessional note... squeeee.

It looks like things are still coming together on the side of Amazon and the rest but it is totally together now and I have some physical copies that are in the mail now and will be in my hands soon.

Book Update - Name Change and Home Stretch

A couple of things to report about my book. First of all the title has changed. It will now be called 3D Printing Blueprints, a change which I am happy with. Secondly, all content is complete and is being reviewed by the page layout people right now for prep before sending to the publishers. Yes, it is that close to done. Next, I got the cover proof. That put me in a giddy mood, I can tell you. That's my name and an ISBN and a UPS and everything. I feel like I'm at a party in my honor and I don't know what to do with my hands.
One of the last things I did was make the blueprint images that will start each chapter. Originally I was going to do something with measurements on it, but since I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to official blueprints (most of my planning looks like scribbles on graph paper, hardly illustration worthy) I decided to go with something a little more representational instead.
It looks like we're still on target for a late August release so you've only got a little longer if you want to get in on RAW pre-order before it goes full price, so get on that.

Book Update - 2nd Drafts complete

Update on my book, Packt managed to get reviewers for the last 3 chapters and 2nd draft editing for all 10 chapters are complete. Thank you everyone who contacted me for reviewing help. I'm sorry Packt didn't end up using you, but I owe you guys. Here's hoping they can get me the final drafts soon. I'm hoping for a August release.

Book Update - Makerbot Project Blueprints needs YOU

Makerbot Project Blueprints is close to finishing but is in dire need of a technical reviewer or two to help review the last few chapters for technical accuracy, meaning you will actually do the activities and report if anything is missing. Since you're coming in at the end the ideal candidate will know the basics of Blender at least a little bit because that's covered in the previous chapters. Owning a 3D printer is not necessary. In return for your services you will receive one physical copy of the finished book and your name in the credits of the book. As an additional incentive, if you sign up for this and stay through to the end I will send you a RoboAction Chess set for participating.

If you are interested you can contact me on my other website by following the link below and I will put you in contact with the Packt people:
http://cymonsgames.com/contact-us/

Per Joseph Chiu I better mention that we're talking about about 3-4 hours of your time that can be spread out over several nights. Could be done with this in a week. That's my time estimate based on my personal estimates but the publisher may be able to tell you better.

Makerbot Project Blueprints on Preorder Now!

It is with great excitement that I can finally announce a project that I've been working on for months!

I've written a book! Makerbot Project Blueprints will pass on my masterful knowledge of making things for 3D printing to you. 9 awesome projects give you the knowledge you need in an exciting and fun way at your pace, as opposed to the dry technical discussion by an expert going too fast you'd get elsewhere. Don't go get help from them, get Makerbot Project Blueprints available on pre-order now at Packt Publishing and later on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Safari.

As a special incentive if you order pre-order now you'll get the raw chapters before they're even finished as we work on them so you can start learning now!
