MakerWare's failings

First I was all "MakerWare, meh." Then I was all "MakerWare, yeah." Then I was all "Heck yeah MakerWare." This post is going to bring the excitement back a notch because I've found a few places Makerware fails.

Printing a batch of TARDIS rings I was surprised to see these little gaps in some of the rings, especially after the last time I did this I know SourceForge bridged those Gaps just fine. But it's not a big deal, the rings were still sized properly. However this...

I hadn't done dual color prints since switching to MakerWare (there really isn't a whole lot of reason to do it, but I'm glad I have the option). When I did the result was... not good. On the left is the one done in Makerware. On the right is the one I had to fire up ReplicatorG to slice, which is handled just fine. The Makerware one seems to have left huge areas unfilled in. I don't know if this is a problem with the model or the dual printing, but I'm not happy with the result.

So I guess keeping ReplicatorG around is a good thing still for more than just accessing the firmware variables for Sailfish.But for almost everything else MakerWare is still doing a great job and I'm going to continue using it generally.
