On the Makerbot Google Group future 3D printer owner has received an ultimatum. Lose 10kg (22 pounds) and gain a 3D Printer. Now despite being on the Makerbot forums Oliver de Peyer isn't shooting for a Makerbot per-se.
This is so inspiring to me. Partially because losing 22 pounds would do me no end of good as well (I'm-a trying, believe me). Were I in a position to I'd start a fund raiser to, if this guy reaches his goal, provide the difference between what his parents would pay for the parts of a DIY kit and a fully assembled ready to print out of the box Makerbot Replicator.
No idea what ever came of this. The story just kind of ends there. Oh well.
